Media Journal Summary

Media is one of the biggest parts of our lives I would say. From Opening Day coverage for MLB Season to Final Four media coverage has grown into a monster and something is always being watched or read. From twitter to coverage of the events in Libya, somebody is always talking and has something going on. Developments over the years in technology have pushed to a more electronic environment for most things but there are still standing images of the past in our present day. Print media has definitely lost some ground over the years and lost alot of its popularity due largely to the internet. I hope in recent years that people dont try to get rid of magazines and newspapers all together. Our lives are constantly surrounded by the media and we always are involved with it in some way.

Media Journal Day 5

Media coverage has grown into something way bigger and is something that people use as a tool in their lives to know whats going on. The media coverage of wars and areas such as the Middle East during times of turmoil is amazing. These news stations pay these people to go over there and risk their lives to cover these events. I think this concept is crazy and has always had my attention. Any time that something comes on with Live Coverage from a certain area, especially ones such as Libya etc. I cant help but keep it on to see what happens. The news stations have created such a sensation and such a feeling that your actually involved in these events its ridiculous. The coverage of up to minute stuff in Libya on networks such as CNN and Fox News is pretty intense and has obviously earned itself a spotlight in the American media watching. It started many years ago when they decided to televise the Vietnam War but I would go as far to say that nobody thought it would be like this now.

Media Journal Day 4

Twitter is something that truely amazes me. This sensation started recently and has completely gone crazy. From movie stars to athletes, it seems that everybody is twittering these days. It essentially gives you up to date, and even up to minute thoughts of these people that they post on this website that you can "follow". It gives the basic American the power to follow some of their favorite famous people or even close friends as they post their thoughts frequently. It is essentially the "status update" of Facebook put into its own website and this idea has gone crazy. I cant say that I personally have given into this latest fad but I have found myself following some famous people just for fun to see what they are saying. Everybody knows how Charlie Sheen has gone off the deep end but now you have the ability to follow every single one of his thoughts and know what this idiot is saying. Charlie Sheen had one of the fastest increases in followers after he started his shenanigans and people genuinely wanted to know what he was going to say next.

Media Journal Day 3

Today is the first day of the Final Four in Houston. This is a very big deal for college sports and is something that constantly is covered by the media. From the practices to the tip off of the two games, everything is covered by some network. The wall to wall coverage of college sports is something that amazes me. I've been a sports fan for as long as I can remember but as I get older I realize how much actually goes into these events. Im sure being a media person for events such as the Final Four or the BCS National Championship would be the craziest thing ever. I feel that the coverage for events such as these has intensified in recent years due to the realization of how much money they can make off of them. Money is the driving power behind any motivation especially in the business world, so it comes as no surprise events like these have gained so much popularity. It really goes to show you how far the media has  come in our world and where it stands today, it is one of the biggest parts of society.
